A SHORT POEM ON THE DEATH OF THE REV. MR. GEORGE WHITEFIELD,
Who departed this life at Newbury-Port, on the Lord's-Day
morning, Sept. 30th, 1770, in the 56th year of age.
  Since life's uncertain, and we fully know
  That death will come, we can't refuse to go;
  Then let us all turn from our sins and live,
  That God's forgiv'ness we may all receive.
II.
  The dart of death doth strike a sudden blow,
  Can raise the soul, but sinks the body low;
  Thus earth to earth returns; so must it be,
  And heav'n born souls, in heav'n do all agree.
III.
  They see their God, and there His praise they sing,
  And all the heav'nly world doth sweetly ring;
  The dying saints, they leave this earthly frame,
  And Then in heaven they sound a glorious name.
